The First Egg

"But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first"
(Matthew 19:30).

It feels a little bit like an Easter egg hunt.  Today I discovered the first egg in the robin's nest.  That was exciting!  I hadn't seen Lady Robin in a few days since she finished building her nest.  Each day I'd peek out the window, but the nest remained empty.  Today I was very surprised when I saw the little blue egg resting in the nest.

"First" is always exciting.  We all love at times to be the first to do something or to know something.  There seems to be something in our nature (or in the way we were nurtured) that gives us this propensity to want to be first (or best).

Jesus taught us, however, that “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all” (Mark 9:35).  By this He means that whoever has a humble servant's heart such as He modeled for us is truly among the first and greatest in His Kingdom. Christ, whom we worship and glorify, is the First and the Last, the one and only eternal God.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End" (Revelation 22:13).
